NeNe to the rescue!

this week i've been battling a sinus infection...probably the worst i've ever had and being pregnant doesn't help because you can't take so many meds that help the case. yesterday i called in reinforcements to help me out with eli and nene came to the rescue. she took him for the whole day and still has him now, a day later. i slept until 9:50 this am. hopefully i'll be on the mend soon. i'm tired of my head pulsing every time i move it!

on a completely different note, eli has definitely been a trip lately. he is talking more and more. he uses his whole body to make his point and most of his talking is actually yelling. at first i didn't know where he was getting the idea that you need to scream everything...i mean, chris and i don't yell at each other all day and night. then while i was watching a georgia basketball game the other night, i figured out while eli does it. i was yelling at the tv, "shoot it! come on that was a foul!" and it occurred to me that since eli really started experimenting with his voice and talking, it has been either football season or basketball season...and the bluster family and eli's daddy are pretty vocal when it comes to watching sports. and on top of that, we have been to many football games and basketball games in person. and they are loud! so i think eli thinks that is how you are supposed to talk. here is an example of what i'm talking about...

eli talking to nene's iphone while looking at himself.

and yes, he can work a stinking iphone by himself!! and he decided he can walk down the stairs alone yesterday as well. as long as he has something to hold on to, he can do it! this kid is a mess but i wouldn't have it any other way.

today is the big day!!

today baseball season officially begins...though we did have a preseason scrimmage thursday night against union co. we are now in full swing here at the akridge house washing uniforms, taking daddy lunch on game days (so eli can spend a little time with him), and packing up lots of warm weather apparel in order to stay warm on these cold baseball nights. i know it will be harder for me to watch eli this year but i do have to say that it will also be much more fun because he is totally into the game and loves seeing daddy on the field. so here's to a great season raiders! make us proud.

eli watching from the press box thursday night.
**for all those in my family scared of heights: the window is closed...though chris said he had to stop of pray during the first inning that eli wouldn't fall out.
i promise i'm not michael jackson! and i had a hold of him the whole time...you just can't see my hand gripping his leg.

eli at a game last year...sitting so still. :)

zippers

while getting ready for church this am, i broke the zipper on one of my only dresses! i guess i'm a little bigger than i was the last time i wore it, but i am carrying a little one inside my belly. i was for sure i could make it work...oh well. hidden zippers just don't like me. this little incident took my mind back to another hidden zipper memory i had. entertain me by letting me tell you the story of my most embarrassing moment to date...

i walked into a cute little alteration store in habersham to pick up a bridesmaid's dress that i was wearing two days later. the sweet little hispanic man with limited english that had altered the dress for me asked me to try it on, with broken english and hand gestures, just to make sure it fit. so i tucked into the changing booth, slipped the dress on, walked out with a sign of acceptance on my face, twirled around in front of the mirror, and then tucked back into the booth to put my street clothes back on. if only it had been that easy. (you see, the dress was strapless, so naturally i tried it on without my upper undergarments on...since i didn't want sweet little hispanic man to see my brassiere and because i wanted to make sure the little black dress fit perfectly.)

while unzipping the dress it got stuck half way down. have i mentioned the dress did in fact fit perfectly? which means no room for error...no double cheeseburger meals until after the big day. well it did and when that zipper got stuck i tried to first pull the dress over my head...strike one. then i tried pulling it down past my waist...strike two. panic mode then set in. i tried moving the zipper up and then down...not a budge. so i walked out of the dressing room with my hands holding my dress to my chest and motioned to sweet little hispanic man that my zipper had just bit the dust. then i motioned that it wasn't coming off and i needed him to rip it off me. his face took on a shade of bright red and he shook his head, "no!" i then shook my head, "yes!" and said, "you have to. its broken and i can't get it off." so he tried to zip it himself...nothing! then i said, "come on, just rip it
. its ok. i need you to rip it." he again shook his head, "no" and the shade of red on his face got a little deeper. remember now, he is being asked to rip off the only thing separating him from a sight of me in my birthday suit! bless his heart. i can still see the fear in his eyes. finally, i persuaded him to rip it off and after getting a seamster's tool i had never seen before off his desk, he pulled on the zip and off she came. after running back into the little booth to hide my nakedness from him, i put on my clothes and walked out with the dress in my hand. he took the dress from me, changed out the zipper, and sent me on my way. i will never forget how embarassing that moment was...and i'm sure he has tried to forget it ever since.

hope my story brightened your day. and remember, watch out for those hidden zippers! they can be little boogers sometimes.
